Civil registry office

Since 1876, every birth, every marriage and every death is recorded by the civil registry offices in the so called “Personenstandsbücher” (civil status books).
With the change of the civil status law from     January 1st, 2009, respites were introduced, after which the civil registries are to be closed and handed over to the responsible archive. There are following respites:
• Birth register
• Marriage register
• Obituary column

Therefore, the older civil registry documents are now available for genealogical research.
In Cooperation of the MAUS with the responsible archives, these civil registers are gradually transferred to the register database and, depending on the agreement with the archives, the internet. These databases may be provided for everyone or for members only.
